Chris Baker and I desired more connections between the department of art and other academic departments at the University of Minnesota (see our project CESS). We had idea share lunches and plotted other ways to engage with curious people at the U.
At about that time, Harrell Fletcher arrived as a visiting artist, I discussed these ideas with him, and he suggested that we structure an event like one he'd assembled for his sculpture class at Portland State.
So, on March 3, 2006, Harrell Fletcher and a group of art grad students roamed the UMN Twin-Cities campus like vagabond documentarians. Each of us had pre-scheduled a presentation by someone in another department, and each of us documented the presentations in our own way - by writing, drawing, sculpting or photographing.
I videotaped each presentation, focusing on the hands of each presenter.
