In a recent installation entitled Navigating the Noosphere, I combine various threads from other projects to explore the interactions of mythology, technology and collective consciousness. A computer stationed outside of the installation entry inquires, “What is your dream?” User responses collect in a database; these dreams are randomly selected and announced by a computer voice while related images -- culled from the Internet -- resolve themselves from a single pixel to 4, 9, 12, and eventually to a fleeting glimpse of a full-resolution image. Meanwhile, calls of birds -- the emissaries of humans and gods, passengers to the sublime (all downloadable on the Internet!) -- fill the space sonically.
